Noerdlinger’s newest landscape oil paintings describe the moments of stillness and beauty that are often invisible or overlooked in the frenzy of busy lives. These paintings include both medium-large landscapes and smaller landscapes with figures. The figurative work describes compelling connections between people in situations beyond their control, and despite what is going to happen. These still moments in the midst of the fray become a time of beauty and revelation. “I like many transparent layers of paint with the brushstrokes and marks of wiping away showing through,” Noerdlinger explained. “The effect conveys a lot of energy in the atmosphere and the potential for anything to happen. I want to give a sense of the unusual, a feeling that something mysterious could happen with the change of light, a shift in the wind, or a drop in temperature. I feel a profound force in nature that is exquisite and unknowable.” |
