Artist, Clay

Susan Wolf

I’ve worked in clay since high school, received a BA from Reed college doing sculpture under Erik Gronborg. Then followed graduate work at UC Davis where I received small but meaningful input from Arneson, Wiley, Thiebaud, et al.
I love working in clay because it is as close as I can get to poetry. The shape itself, bent pinched and folded is the “form” and the colors and lines and applied bits are the “words”. The two play off and against each other harmoniously, incongruously, however! The results are not always what I had in mind but they always lead somewhere.
