My love of ceramics stems from the tremendous potential of clay. A piece of clay can transform into a teacup, tile, sculpture, wall art, covered jar, bowl or countless other forms. These open-ended opportunities keep me perpetually intrigued, ready to explore, develop and refine. I enjoy exploring new forms and new techniques.
My work is solidly founded in functional ware. My interest in mathematics draws me toward geometric considerations and my interest in nature draws me toward textural considerations, both of which I combine to create objects that are functional. I especially enjoy developing forms which are a combination of thrown and hand-built giving a slight twist on traditional forms. My choice of glazes aims to either accentuate textures or create patterns from inherent properties of the glaze.
