Marianne Lettieri, Mixed Media, Collage and Assemblage: I grew up on Cape Canaveral, Florida during the "space race to the moon" between the USA and USSR. Visual juxtapositions, such as missile gantries rising over palmetto scrubs, and rosette spoonbills flying at the rumble of a rocket launch, created for me a lasting appreciation for images that are at once familiar and unsettling.
After earning a BFA at University of Florida, I worked as a graphic artist and modern dancer prior to a career in creative marketing and public relations in the Silicon Valley of Northern California. Art making has always been a part of my life, including murals, costume design, and decorative painting. I now work full time in assemblage, collage, and mixed media, sharing a warehouse studio space with ten other artists in Redwood City.
Connecting disparate elements so that we see things in a new way is central to my artwork. I often use vintage objects and ephemera to tell stories of who we are and how we have lived. Transforming forgotten castoffs and ordinary detritus into meaningful imagery is for me a personal statement of faith.
